Thinking of You!

I was asked to make todays card by a friend.  Her sister-in-law has been diagnosed with a serious illness and she wants to let her know she’s in her thoughts.

The white cardstock is a combination of linen, hammer and sand all 270gms, so it is a really sturdy card.  The designer paper is an off cut from another card from long ago and the strip with the company and paper name is missing, I think it may have been a Kaisercraft paper.

The frame die I’ve used today is Spellbinders “Majestic Labels Twenty-five” S5-189, I’ve used dies 5 and 6 to create the frame and kept the inner section for another card.

The panel in the centre is the Heartfelt Creations “Raindrops on Roses” die, HCD743. The sentiment tag is die cut from Spellbinders “Grommet Tags” S4-322, embossed and while still in the die, I’ve lightly inked around the edge with Victorian Velvet Distress Ink. I’ve stamped the “Thinking of You” sentiment from JustRite “Large Fancy Sentiments” CR-03815 in Versafine Onyx Black ink.

Organza ribbon was threaded through the holes in the grommet tag before it was attached to the card with double sided foam tape and the ends where taped behind the whole panel before it was attached to the card. I then made a double bow from the ribbon and a decorative pin from bits and pieces from my stash, I attached the bow with silicone and popped the pin in behind the bow.

Cheery Lynn Rose strip dies miniature and large where used to make all the roses and the large rose and small rose below the bow where inked with Victorian Velvet distress ink.

Pearls from my stash were added to finish the card off.

Birthday Cards!

I’ve used the Spellbinders Radiant Rectangles S5-161 for both cards. I absolutely love these Spellbinders dies and I’m probably going to bore everyone to death by overusing them, but I really, really love them. 

This first card was for my Mother-in-Law, Shirley, for her birthday.

I’ve used (working from the middle die out) dies 3, 4, 6 and 7 from the Radiant Rectangles set. They’ve all been cut from ivory cardstock and embossed.  Die number 3 was very lightly inked with Rangers Dusty Concord Distress Ink, while it was still in the die.

The designer paper is “Violet Bouquet” by Graphic 45. The purple cardstock for the mat is from Bazzill. 

The “Happy Birthday” sentiment is from the JustRite Papercrafts CR-03815 “Grand Sentiments”.

The purple rose is made from Ivory linen paper and the Heartfelt Creations “Vintage Floret Die” HCD727, it has been inked with Dusty Concord ink.

I’ve used organza ribbon and pearls from my stash, along with a headpin and beads from my stash for the decorative pin.

 

My second card is also a birthday card, not made for anyone in particular, I just wanted to play with the flowers.

This card uses dies 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. I’ve discarded the outer piece cut from die no. 7. 

I’ve used a lighter blue bazzill cardstock and a white linen cardstock for the various layers.

The sentiment is again from the JustRite Papercrafts CR-03815 “Grand Sentiments” (I love this set, the sentiments are beautiful) stamped in Versafine Onyx Black ink.

The blue scrunched flowers have been made from the Heartfelt Creations “Vintage Floret Die” HCD727, inked with distress ink and a pearl in the centre.  The smaller flowers are from a McGill Baby Blossoms Punch and have also been inked with distress inks, the cherry blossom type flower has stamens (held in place with silicone) in the centre. The leaves are punched from what I believe to be an old Carl punch (I bought it second hand) and the wreath leaf is from a Martha Stewart punch.

The pearls are from my stash.

 

Shirley’s card has been remade for a class card, we used a bought flower on the class version and the second card is on the list to be used in class.

Boy Cards!

I’d like to share some boy or should I say men's cards that I’ve made recently.  These two cards have been used in card classes at Kookaburra Crafts in recent weeks also.

Motorcycle Birthday Card

This one’s for the man in your life that has a love affair with motorbikes.  It’s quick and simple. The card measures 11.5cm x 14.5cm (4 1/2” x 5 3/4”).  I’ve used a 270gsm white cardstock for the base card, sentiment panel and the stamped motorcycle panel. The black mats and cogs are from bazill cardstock.  The stamped image is “Motorcycle” from Deep Red Cling Stamps.  The sentiment is from the JustRite Papercrafts stamp set “Anchors Away” CR-03710 and has been die cut with JustRites “Antique Labels One” JB-03830. The gears are a set from Cheery Lynn Designs “Gears” B340. The silver mirror board has been embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder “Checker Plate” I’ve used some silver eyelets for a masculine embellishment.

Boating Birthday

This card measures 14.5cm x 14.5cm (5 3/4” x 5 3/4”). I’ve used a smooth ivory cardstock for the base card and both of the stamped layers. The blue cardstock for the mats is by bazill. All of the stamps are by Our Daily Bread Design, “Fishing Boat” F452, Fishing Net Background” F450 and the sentiment “Ornate Frame Sentiments” F514. The brown is Vintage Sepia by Versafine and I’ve used distress inks for the boat background and over the fishing net background.  I’ve used the “Trellis Border” die 98476 by Memory Box to represent a fishing net rather than a trellis.

Celebrating Your Love

I’ve made todays card for the Cheery Lynn Design Inspiration Blog Challenge No. 117 – “Tickled Pink”.

The card measures 21cm wide x 14.8cm high.  All of the flowers are handmade using Cheery Lynn dies. The butterfly and corner dies are also from Cheery Lynn.  The hearts were cut from Heartfelt Creations “Timeless Amour” dies. The gorgeous little sentiment is from Justrite.  I am having a lot of fun playing along with the Cheery Lynn challenges.  I lost my mojo for a while and they truly are helping to get it back and occasionally stretching my comfort zone.

Cheery Lynn Dies used:  B216 Wreath Strip, B178 Flourish Strip, B338 Black Eyed Susan Strip, B188 Embellishment 2, B150 Cuties 2, B151 Cuties 3, B162 Lace Corner Deco B, DL112 Exotic Butterfly Small, DL112A Small Angel Wing.

For Your Special Day!

We’ve been having a heatwave here over recent weeks and it’s just been so uncomfortable, we’ve lost guinea pigs and a chook and I know of others that have lost pets also, but finally some real relief today, it has rained/drizzled almost all day today, and the temperature has been lovely.  Going from one extreme to the other I feel for those in America living through a blizzard, my heart goes out to them.

On with my card for today, I’ve made it for a Cheery Lynn Designs blog challenge “Winter Whites”.

To make the card base I cut 2 pieces of linen cardstock at 8 1/4” x 6 1/2” then 1 piece at 1” x 8 1/4” scored this at 1/2” and used it as a hinge to join the first two pieces.

Layer One:  Cut linen cardstock to 8” x 6 1/4”, cut hammer cardstock to 7 7/8” x 6 1/8” glue or tape this to the linen cardstock then attach panel to the base with double sided foam tape.

Layer Two:  Cut linen cardstock to 6 5/8” x 4 7/8”, cut smooth cardstock to 6 1/2” x 4 3/4” emboss in a 5” x 7” embossing folder (I used a Cuttlebug folder, unfortunately I don’t know it’s name) glue or double sided tape to the linen cardstock. Attach to layer one with double sided foam tape.

Layer Three:  From linen cardstock use Spellbinders Decorative Labels Eight to cut out the frame, then use Labels Eight to cut the centre out. Die cut the Cheery Lynn French Lattice Frame (FRM132), turn the decorative label eight panel face down, lay the lattice panel on top and mark where you need to cut it to sit nicely behind. Cut it out then glue behind the decorative labels eight frame.  Use the labels eight die and trace around it and cut out, use double sided foam tape to attach the frame to this.  Attach to layer two with double sided foam tape.

Sentiment:  The sentiment is from JustRite Papercraft “Grand Birthday Sentiments” and is stamped in “Smokey Grey” ink by Versafine onto smooth white cardstock.  This is then diecut using the Spellbinders “Labels Twenty’Eight” die number 3 and embossed”.  The panel is then attached to the lattice with double sided tape or glue.

Flowers:  The largest flower is cut using Cheery Lynn Designs “Sweet William” strip die.  I’ve used all the pieces, I’ve lightly misted them, then wrapped each petal individually around the barrel of a pen and pinched them.  When they are dry I’ve used a stylus in a circular motion in the flower centre, cupping them more the smaller they get, I’ve put the flower together with a rhinestone brad from small to large alternating the petals as I went.  The roses were made with the Medium Rose strip die from Cheery Lynn Designs, there are many tutorials on making roses with these dies on Youtube.   I’ve lightly inked the calyxes with Bundled Sage Distress Ink from Ranger.  The smallest rose is made using little flowers from the Cheery Lynn Embellisment 3 B265 in the same way as the bigger ones. The leaves are die cut from Cheery Lynn “Wreath Strip” B216, I only used the tips not the whole leaf. I lightly inked the leaves with Bundled Sage Distress Ink also.  All of the flowers and leaves were lightly spritzed with “Perfect Pearls Mists” by ranger, to give them a little shine.

The bow in the corner is 1/2” ribbon tied into a triple bow and then I’ve blinged the card up with some pearls.

A Thank You Card for a Competition!

This is a first for me, I’ve made a card to enter into an online card challenge.  I love Cheery Lynn dies, especially the flower making ones.  Cheery Lynn Designs Blog does a weekly challenge and this week it’s a thank you card. You will find the details of the challenge “here”.

I’ve used an old Prima 6”x6” paper stack pad called “Fairy Flora”, I bought it 3 years ago when I was in Mackay for Christmas with family.  I love the paper in it, but find it hard to use because it’s too pretty to cut up!….lol.  The brown cardstock is from a cardstock pack that I bought at Kmart and the cream is from a junk shop.

I’ve also used a new die that Jacqui has gotten in at Kookaburra Crafts, it’s a Joy Crafts die 6002/0304, it’s so pretty and lacy.

All of the flowers and leaves are die cut using Cheery Lynn Designs dies from 190gsm White Regal Parchment paper and coloured with Tim Holtz Distress Inks then shaped and glued together.

 

Finished card is 6 1/2” x 7”

More Class Cards

I am sorry it’s been so long between posts.  I’ve been unwell and I’ve had kids home from school sick also.  It’s been so much fun, I think they’ve been tag teaming with being sick over the winter months.

I’m playing catch up now and here are two cards that I’ve managed to make for Kookaburra Crafts classes in the last couple of months. (Months! I have been slack).

Card 1 – Blossom Corners

I love this card, the beautiful corners by Heartfelt Creations are just so dainty and lacy I love them.

Card 2 – Butterfly on Lattice

I love butterflies and this Craftables one by Marianne Designs is just divine. I made the background paper for this card by squishing the distress ink pad onto a craft sheet and spritzing it with water, then dip an old toothbrush into the ink and use your fingers to flick the ink onto the background paper.  It’s a really quick and easy way to make a background paper and you could use a couple of different colours for a different look.

The ingredients for this card are:  A4 White Smooth Cardstock, Bazzill Basics Cardstock, Scrap of green cardstock, Scrap of 170gsm Parchment Paper for the flowers, Spellbinders Lattice Motifs, Craftables Butterfly – CR1205, JustRite Custom Dies – Vintage Labels Four, Spellbinders – Jewel Flowers and Flourishes, Nellie Snellen Floral Punches – Sm, Med & Lg, JustRite Becca Feeken Stamp Set, Shaded Lilac Distress Ink, Old Toothbrush, Versafine Smoky Grey ink

Because You Are So Beautiful…….

Today I have another card made for classes at Kookaburra Crafts.  This card was made using the beautiful Joy Crafts dies.  They are gorgeous, and so much fun to play with.

The rose is made using a combination of the Spellbinders Rose Creations and the Bitty Blossoms and the daisies are made with the Joy Crafts Daisy die. Mmmm……. I think I may have to do another flower tutorial on here to show how I made the rose, they are quick and easy to do.

Carnations in Navy

Good evening everyone.  My last post was a tutorial on making paper carnations and I gave a bit of a sneak glimpse of a card that we were teaching in Jacqui’s classes at Kookaburra Crafts during this last week, well here is the whole card.

This cards uses Bazzil basics cardstock in navy and green, Ivory Prismacolour Cardstock, ivory linen paper, Marianne Creatables Die – LR0200, Spellbinders Classic Scalloped Circles Large & Small,Cheery Lynn Designs Wreath Strip Die – B216, Cheery Lynn Designs Flourish Leaf Strip Die – B178, Nellie Snellen Floral Punch – Medium Rose Flower, Nellie Snellen Floral Punch – Small Flower – 1 and Ranger Distress Inks by Tim Holtz in Chipped Sapphire, Scattered Straw and Pumice Stone.

A Carnation Tutorial

Good evening, I hope everyone has had a wonderful Easter and that the Easter Bunny left lots of yummy Easter eggs for you all.

Tonight I’m putting up a tutorial on making carnations.  They really are very basic and I’m sure there are plenty of other tutorials out there on making them, but this will be my take on it.

This is a glimpse of an upcoming class card for Kookaburra Crafts and on this card we are making 3 of the carnations, 2 small and 1 large..

I have used Spellbinders Scalloped circles, the smallest of the Small scalloped circles for the 2 smaller carnations and the smallest of the Large Scalloped Circles for the large one. In the above picture there doesn't appear to be much difference, but on the actual card it is quite noticeable. If you don’t have these you could use a punch or hand cut some circles.  You need 6 for each carnation.

I have also used Ranger Distress Inks by Tim Holtz in Chipped Sapphire, a brad to hold them together, a water spritzer, a piercing tool and mat.

 

Once you’ve die cut your circles, ink around the edges of all of your circles, on both sides, with your chosen colour ink.



Stack all the circles, don’t worry about trying to line up the scallops.  Fold one gently into four and squeeze the middle to give you a centre point.



Place the circle with the marked centre onto the rest of the pile, place on a piercing mat and use your piercing tool to poke a hole through all 6 layers.



Place a brad though the hole you’ve just made and open it up to fasten into place.



Lightly spritz the flower with water.



Pull the first layer of the flower up and scrunch it fairly firmly.



Continue to spritz each layer lightly and scrunch them all up, until you end up with something like the picture above.



Once you have spritzed and scrunched each layer, then carefully pull the layers apart, leaving the centre layer still quite scrunched.  Use a heat tool to dry your flower for immediate use or simply allow it to air dry before using it.

Welcome

Hi all, this is my first ever blog post and hopefully there will be many more to come.  I am addicted to Card Making and I hope I can offer some inspiration to anyone who visits my blog.
I make cards for friends and relatives as well as design for my wonderful friend Jacqui Callon at Kookaburra Crafts.
I’m including pictures of just a couple of my cards to get started.

Black and White Challenge Card.

This card was made for a challenge at Kookaburra Crafts for the November 2012 Challenge.  I have used dies from Spellbinders, Marianne Design and Cheery Lynn Designs, punches from Nellie Snellen and Martha Stewart and the sentiment and back stamps are from JustRite Papercraft.  The flowers are all handmade.


You Are In My Prayers

This gorgeous card was created using the new Spellbinders 5 x 7 Elegant Labels Four.  I just love this new range of dies they are wonderful.  All I’ve added to this card is a little bit of ribbon, some bought flowers, some punched leaves and a couple of little pearls.  I’ve also done a little bit of inking using the Ranger Distress Inks by Tim Holtz.  The card really was quite quick and simple to make.
It was made as a class card for Kookaburra Crafts.

Masculine Birthday Card

This card was also made as a class card for Kookaburra Crafts. It uses stamps by JustRite Papercraft for the sentiment, main image and background and dies by Spellbinders. The background was stamped and then inked with Ranger Distress Inks by Tim Holtz.  I find it really hard to come up with masculine cards, but I was really happy with this one.
